Biography

Dr. Sundaresan Alamelu is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise spanning environmental sciences, molecular pathology, immunology, tissue engineering, nanotechnology, and biomedical sciences. Her research focuses on understanding complex biological responses associated with immune regulation, disease progression, environmental stressors, and emerging biomedical technologies.

Dr. Alamelu earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Molecular Pathology from the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. She also holds an M.Sc. in Medical Entomology from the Vector Control Research Center (WHO), Pondicherry, India, and a B.S. in Zoology from Women’s Christian College, Chennai, India. Her diverse academic training has provided a strong foundation for investigating biological systems from molecular, cellular, and environmental perspectives.

Research Interests

Dr. Alamelu’s research program focuses on advancing knowledge in immunology, regenerative medicine, and biomedical innovation. Her primary research interests include:

  • Immune Regulation Under Stress Conditions

    Investigation of key immune alterations under immunosuppressed conditions, including microgravity environments and cancer-associated immune dysfunction.

  • Three-Dimensional Human Tissue Engineering

    Development of innovative scaffold-free three-dimensional human tissue models to improve understanding of human physiology, disease mechanisms, and therapeutic responses.

  • Gut–Brain Axis and Inflammatory Signaling

    Exploration of molecular signaling pathways connecting the gastrointestinal system and the brain, with emphasis on inflammation, immune modulation, and systemic health.

  • Nanotechnology and Nano-Formulations

    Development and application of nanotechnology-based approaches for improving therapeutic delivery, biomedical research, and disease management.

  • Radiation Biology and Mathematical Modeling

    Application of mathematical tissue modeling approaches to understand the biological effects of heavy ion radiation exposure and radiation-induced tissue responses.

  • Nutritional Immunomodulation

    Research into how nutritional factors influence immune function and contribute to disease prevention, recovery, and overall health.
